Under One Banner

The purpose of government, according to the Constitution, is to "establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty". It is also to govern the government which was created by that Constitution. They were not given the freedom of extravagance (the right of royalty) when they were elected.

They have, however, consistently abused their authority, usurping powers that were never granted to them by the Constitution. They have learned to play by rules that they make for themselves, with total disregard for the limitations imposed by that Constitution.

They have, over the years, managed to completely lose control of the self-restraint that we would expect our government to impose upon itself. The have become out of control in legislation, assertion of power over both the People of the United States of America, and other people of the world, and, the spending of money yet to be earned by our Posterity.

James Madison said, in Federalists Papers #51, "In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself."

The "You Have Tread On Me - Petition" is intended to do just exactly what Mr. Madison has told us must be done. If government cannot control itself, it is proper for us to oblige them, through Redress of Grievances, that they must control themselves -- in accordance with the Constitution -- if they are to continue acting in the capacity of the national government.

After all, isn't our responsibility to let them know that We Have Had Enough?
